Introduction: Beginning teachers are asked to join professional organizations. "To join or not to join, that is the question"?
What are the expectations of teachers to join these organizations?
What should individuals expect out of the professional organizations?

These questions will be answered during this lesson and you will develop a better understanding concerning the importance of joining professional organiztions in education. You will also have a better understanding of what these teacher organizations do as well as explore the characteristics of the teaching profession.

In this lesson we look at professionalism and teacher organizations as well as specific teacher organizations for career and technical educators.

Visit the National Association of Agricultural Educators to learn more about your professional organization.



Visit the North Carolina Agriculture Teachers Association web site. Check out the various links.




The National Council for Agricultural Education promotes a number of projects that benefit agriculture teachers. Spend some time at this site.



The Assocation for Career and Technical Education is the umbrella organization for all vocational educators. Spend some time at this site. What is TECHNIQUES?



Learn more about your state CTE affiliate of the ACTE. Go to http://www.acteonline.org/about/states/index.cfm amd click on your state.



Many teachers belong to the North Carolina Association of Educators. Check them out.



One of the most popular national organizations is the National Education Association.Visit their site by clicking here.



Another teacher organization is the American Federation of Teachers. This group is not found in North Carolina and is considered by some to be more of an union than a professional organization because it is affiliated with the AFL-CIO.



If you become a university professor of agricultural education, you will want to join the American Association for Agricultural Education.



If you become a state lever supervisor of agricultural education, you will want to join the NationalAssociation of Supervisors of Agriculture.
