Class 4: The Development of CTE in America
Upon completion of this lesson the learner will be able to:

Trace the development of career and technical education in the U.S.
from the colonial days to the present.

Identify significant legislation affecting career and technical education.

Describe the links between career and technical education and the land grant universities.

Introduction: Career and Technical Education has existed in this country from its very beginning, but not always in a formal sense.  In this lesson, we will trace the development of career and technical education from the colonial days to the present.  We will also examine the legislation that has influenced career and technical education programs over time.  Federal legislation is important to career and technical education because the federal laws TEND to influence policies adopted in the states, i.e. the states follow suit on whatever the feds say is important.
