Ten Week Web Courses

Student AEE 500 Agricultural Education, Schools and Society (3) – Role and structure of modern agricultural education within the overall educational system; school organization and governance, curriculum, teacher roles and responsibilities, educational philosophy and history, multiculturalism, special need students, impact of technology, professionalism, and current educational trends and issues. Instructor: Dr. John Rayfield.  10 week summer course. This course is a stand alone course on the World Wide Web and is required in the LEAP program. The course starts May 18 and ends July 31. 
AEE 595 Public Policy Development and Advocacy (3)  - Methods and techniques of developing and influencing public policies and programs with an emphasis on agricultural, human resource and educational policy. Instructors are Dr. MeeCee Baker from Versant Strategies (Pennsylvania's premier public affairs firm specializing in rural issues), Dr. Jay Jackman, Executive Director of the National Association of Agricultural Educators and Dr. Gary Moore, President-elect of the Assocation for Career and Technical Education.. Class starts May 21 and ends July 31. 10 week summer course. This course is a stand alone course on the World Wide Web.  computer
Second Session Summer School - Live Courses

AEE 507 Comparative Agricultural & Extension Education (3). Organization and operation of formal and nonformal agricultural education and extension systems in the United States and in other countries. This course is a hybrid course involving some Internet based lessons culminating in a week long field trip. We will travel by chartered bus to visit agricultural operations, public schools and extension programs in North Carolina and adjacent states. Currently the plan is to start the trip in the Northeast corner of North Carolina and observe programs in Virginia, Maryland, New Jersey, Delaware and Pennsylvania. The field trip will occur July 13-17. Students will pay for their meals and lodging on the trip. Dr. Gary Moore is the instructor.

AEE 595 - Teaching Biotechnology (3) - This hands-on course will prepare teachers of agriculture to deliver state-of-the art biotechnology instruction to their students. The course meets June 30, July 1, 27-31. Space is at a premium. Prospective students should contact Dr. Beth Wilson at bwilson@ncsu.edu immediately for special registration information.

AEE 595 - Using Popular Culture to Teach Leadership Using popular culture to teach leadership is a course designed to provide the student with an assortment of popular media formats which will provide an opportunity to explore different leadership techniques, styles and facilitate learning of leadership theory and practice.  During this course students will analyze and assess leadership practices through, film, audio and written formats.  This course examines leadership practices in our culture in regards to teamwork, followership and leadership.
The course meets from 9 am -  noon during June 29 - July 10 and July 27-31. Dr. David Jones is the instructor. Please contact  Dr. Jones at dwjones@ncsu.edu for more information.
