  • Time of day as rush hour will be busiest
  • School start and ending times that have children on the sidewalk and crossing the street
  • Events at the school requiring parents to drive to school
  • Fire emergencies
  • Reduced flow of traffic from north/south road during the day
  • Pedestrian and bike traffic crossing the street
  • Fire trucks entering or returning from station

Variables we can control

  • Start and ending times of school
  • Start and ending times of school events
  • Speed on streets
  • Left and right turns on north/south street
  • Crosswalk use by building an overpass
  • Length of time green light is on for each direction
  • Length of time the walk light is green
  • Left turn arrows on traffic light
  • Red light in all directions for fire emergencies
Variables we must account for
  • Time and frequency of fire emergencies
  • Number of cars traveling on each road
  • Start and end of rush hour
  • Speed of cars ignoring speed limit
