Instructor's response to Class 4/Exercise

- Place mousetrap on flat surface in front of you.
- Metal attachments are pointed up.
- Metal, spring loaded bar ("hammer") is
at end nearest you.
- Hold down bar (wire shaped piece) is moved to the
farthest point away from center of trap forming a straight line from the
center outward.
- Place bait on metal trigger in center of trap.
- Use metal prong to secure small piece of bait
- Bait should be of a size not to interfere with
trap operation, but large enough to attract mouse.
- Hold right edge of trap in place with index and next
finger by holding down.
- Grasp hammer between thumb and index finger of
left hand and lift up.
- Hold hammer securely to keep it from flipping
back.
- Move hammer up to 90-degree position and hold firmly
with left thumb and index finger.
- Place middle finger from left hand on far left
side (across from right hand) of mousetrap and press down to hold trap
in place.
- Carefully and quickly move fingers from right
hand to the backside of trap.
- Continue firm hold on trigger with left thumb
and index finger.
- Use pressure of left index finger on top left
of hammer and thumb on middle right of hammer to force it down to the
wood platform against the pressure of the spring.
- Hold hammer against wood with left index finger
and thumb.
- Grasp hold down bar between thumb and middle
finger of right hand.
- Place hold down bar over hammer.
- Use right index finger to slightly lift the trigger
while moving hold down bar into trigger hole.
- Remove right hand.
- Gently begin to remove pressure on hammer with
left hand.
- Verify that trigger will hold hold down bar.
- If not, readjust hold down bar and trigger
until secure.
- Grab platform on outside edges with thumb and finger
on end with hammer.
- Use caution to not disturb the trigger.
- Place trap in appropriate place.
