For
this unit, we want our learners to focus on very specific steps for handling
the fungicide. The preinstructional strategy should focus the learners’
attention on these steps. Our first choice would be a pretest, as it will alert
the learner to focus on the handling procedures. The instruction is probably
short, but it has some structure related sequencing (i.e., mixing first, application
second, cleanup third). The learners will also have some familiarity with the
content.
Our second choice is behavioral objectives because they would precisely inform the learners of what is expected related to the safe handling of the fungicide. The passage is short and it works well with middle ability students.
In contrast to the fungicide unit, this one is conceptual rather than procedural. Our first choice is an overview that will prepare the learners for the instruction. The unit has little structure and the overview can provide this structure for the lesson. A second choice would be the advance organizer that would also provide the learners with a conceptual framework for the unit. However, the unit does not have a dominant structure making this choice less appealing.
