Major Contributions to the Profession

° Developed the idea and was the driving force in getting the National FFA Organization to establish the H. O. Sargent Award to recognize diversity efforts in agricultural education.
° Chaired the Journal of the American Association of Teacher Educators in Agriculture Editing-Managing Board and led the effort to change the name of the Journal to the Journal of Agricultural Education.
° Editor of the Agricultural Education Magazine. When the editorship was assumed the Magazine had steadily been loosing money and had a steady decline in subscriptions. Both trends were reversed.
° Conceived the idea and secured funding to develop an on-line teacher certification program for the nation to increase the supply of agriculture teachers (LEAP).
° As Historian of AAAE has collected 25 videotaped interviews of the leaders of the profession.
° Located the lost Stimson manuscript on early leaders in agricultural education.
° Met with the Southern Association of Agricultural Scientist (SAAS) board and attended their meetings to lay the groundwork for the merger of the Southern Agricultural Education Conference with SAAS.
° Promoted the development of distance education courses in agricultural education. This effort has lead to collaborative efforts among a number of universities in the development of distance education courses and the sharing of resources.
° Initiated the National Quiz Bowl competition for collegiate agricultural education students.
° Developed and maintains the SAE Central web site which is a teaching resource for agriculture teachers
° Promoted the development of a “research” SAE category through the development of a new SAE model.
° Chaired the National FFA Task Force on SAE. Instrumental in the development of an electronic “SAE Handbook” for use by agriculture teachers.
