| Dr. Wilson grew up in Eastern North Carolina on a diversified row crop and livestock farm and was active in 4-H. In high school and college, she worked in horticultural businesses and earned her North Carolina Landscape Contractor's certification after graduating in horticulture. Between 1982 and 1996, Dr. Wilson taught and developed high school courses in horticulture, biotechnology and animal science for urban high school agricultural education programs in central North Carolina. In 1990, she was recognized as the National FFA Agriscience Teacher of the Year. Between 1996 and 2000, she worked as the Central Regional Agricultural Education coordinator providing support for over 100 schools in Central North Carolina. During this time Dr. Wilson spearheaded the development of the Biotechnology for Plants, Animals and the Environment curriculum guide for the National Agricultural Education Council. Between 2000-2006 she coordinated workshops for the North Carolina Biotechnology Center and trained over 150 science and biotechnology teachers how to teach agricultural biotechnology. She is currently working with NCSU faculty in Animal Science and Plant Biology to create a 200 level course to teach agricultural biotechnology to students at NCSU. She spends a lot of her time as the student teaching coordinator (which she enjoys) placing and mentoring student teachers in agricultural education in schools across North Carolina. In 2007, she was inducted into the Academy of Outstanding Teachers at North Carolina State University. |
