Welcome to the Department of |
The mission of the Department of Agricultural and Extension Education is to develop, support, and lead professionals in agricultural and extension education. Education about agriculture occurs in public schools, in Cooperative Extension settings, and within the agricultural industry. To accomplish our mission, the department provides academic degree programs, support for statewide extension activities, and supports the efforts of over 380 agricultural education teachers at high schools and middle schools throughout North Carolina.
Our departmentÕs efforts are aimed at two of the nationÕs greatest resources Š its people and the agricultural industry. We are committed to serving the people of the state, through providing support for teaching, through our support for the professionals who work with the youth in the state in FFA and 4-H programs, through our support for extension professionals who develop programs for families, and for those who are involved in informing the public about the great agricultural industry.
The Department of Agricultural and Extension Education at North Carolina State University offers degree programs at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
At the undergraduate level, the Bachelor of Science degree is offered with three options:
At the graduate level, students may select either a Master of Science degree (with a thesis requirement) in either Agricultural Education or Extension Education or the professional (non-thesis) masterÕs degrees, the Master of Agricultural Education or Master of Extension Education. We also offer the Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) degree in Agricultural and Extension Education.
In addition to providing degree programs in agricultural and extension education, our department includes faculty who are integral to facilitating the mission of North Carolina Cooperative Extension. Extension faculty in our department provide leadership to Cooperative Extension in the areas of program development, program evaluation and in program accountability and reporting. These faculty work with the hundreds of faculty in Cooperative Extension across the state to assist them in assuring that relevant, responsive Extension programs are provided to the citizens of this state.
The faculty in our department also work closely with the leadership of the secondary agricultural education programs within the state. A team of five faculty and their support staff provide technical and program support, lead curriculum development efforts, coordinate FFA activities, and provide professional development workshops for the agricultural education teachers in North Carolina.
The faculty and staff in the Department of Agricultural and Extension Education are student-oriented and are committed to helping students achieve their educational goals. We encourage you to contact individual faculty regarding questions or additional information about the Department.
