American Angus Registrations
Roger McCraw
The American Angus Association is the largest beef registry in the U.S. With the recent merger
of the American Hereford Association and the American Polled Hereford Association, the
combined group will move into second place in number of animals registered during the past
year. Even so, there still were almost twice as many Angus animals registered as Herefords, to
give a relative perspective to first and second place.
Nationally, Angus breeders registered 224,710 head during their last fiscal year. This number
represented the ninth consecutive year of growth in number of registrations. The top 10 states
