The 24th Annual BCIP Salisbury Performance Tested Bull Sale was held Saturday, February 8, 1997 at the Iredell County Fairgrounds south of Statesville. Despite the cold, damp weather a large crowd of cattlemen attended. Bidding was steady on the thirty-four bulls that sold for $48,550 to average a strong $1,428.
Twenty-nine Angus bulls topped the Sale with an average of $1,510. Lot 3 from the below average birth weight Angus group was high selling bull of all breeds at $3,100. The GT Maximum son was from Oakview Angus Farm owned by Bobby Aldridge, Yanceyville. His EPD's were 2.6 birth weight, 43 weaning weight, 78 yearling weight, and 11 maternal milk. He was purchased by Robert Howard, Mooresville. Lot 28 was second high selling below average birth weight Angus bull. Wolfgang Lotz, Chapel Hill consigned the 507 GAR Precision 1680 son. The high bid of $2,100 was placed by James Hinson of Salisbury. A total of 11 below average birth weight Angus bulls sold for an average of $1,705. There were 18 above average birth weight Angus bulls averaging $1,392. Lot 25 was highest seller of this group. He was purchased for $2,800 by Perry Teeter, Mooresville. The 2149 Paramont Ambush 2172 son was consigned by Jeff Lancaster of Elm City and he posted impressive performance figures by gaining 4.47 pounds per day with a ratio of 118 and an adjusted yearling weight of 1226 pounds. Vince and Virginia Gable of Boone consigned Lot 16 the second high selling above average birth weight Angus bull. This LC 7 Rito 1B1 of 5H11 Bando gained 3.89 pounds per day and had an adjusted yearling weight of 1111. He was purchased by L&M Ranch of Roseboro for $2,000.
David and Sharon Mecimore, Taylorsville consigned the high selling Charolais, lot 50, a 553 EC Spartan 226 son. He sold for $1,350 to Lynn Dagenhart, Hiddenite, NC. He weighed 1139 pounds at a year of age with EPD's of 2.6 birth weight, 38 weaning weight, 40 yearling weight, and 15 maternal milk.
Two Simmental bulls averaged $950. Jimmy Smith from Cove City consigned lot 69 the high selling Simmental bull. He was an E14 Black Polled Dakota son with EPD's of 2.5 birth weight, 17 weaning weight, 30 yearling weight, and 7 maternal milk. He sold to Bob Mullinax of Newton for $1,050. Steve and Betty Carroll, Walkertown consigned lot 68 which was purchased by Don Speights, Albemarle for $850. This bull was sired by E20 Black Mick and had a yearling weight of 1164.
Two Gelbveih bulls sold for a total of $1,500. Lot 55 was a POW PLD Black Imprint 3862 son consigned by David McClary, Evergreen. This bull weighed 1082 pounds at yearling. He sold for $900 to Jim Fox, Taylorsville. Lot 54 consigned by Ken and Sherron Harris, Troy sold for $600 to Thad Reames, Charlotte.
One bull was sold to a producer in South Carolina and the remaining 33 went to herds in North Carolina.
