Field Day Planned for NC Forage Bull Test Sale

B. B. Plyler,
Sampson County Livestock Agent

The Sampson County Beef Council is planning an educational field day focusing on bull management the morning of the bull sale, Nov. 9th. We will start the day at 9:00 a.m. with various vendors representing the cattle industry. Our educational program will begin at 9:30 and will feature Dr. Roger McCraw speaking on what to think about before you buy a bull, Dr. Michael Whitacre speaking on "Breeding Soundness Evaluations" and Richard Melton will tell us how to manage our bulls when we get them home. A free lunch will be served to all participants starting at 11:00 am.

The showcase of the day will of course be the bulls offered for the sale which will begin at 1:00 p.m. We expect to sell 56 hardened, forage developed, ready to use bulls, (36 Angus, 9 Simmental, 5 Gelbvieh, 2 Polled Hereford, 2 Limousin, 1 South Devon and 1 Tarentaise). The bulls will be on display the day before and morning of the sale. If you make arrangements, the bulls may be seen anytime before at the bull test station if you make arrangements.

This year we will again be offering a group of bred commercial replacement heifers to sell immediately after the bull sale. Please plan to attend the field day and the sale as all producers are invited and buyers are always appreciated.
