UNDERGRADUATE COORDINATOR'S OFFICE

If you are a freshman looking for an Animal Science course to take next semester, consider ANS 105 (Introduction to Companion Animals) or ANS 110 (Introduction to Equine Science). There are no pre-requisites for either course. Both courses will also be taught in Fall 2002, but you need to be a Freshman or Sophomore to enroll. After Fall 2002, Intro to Companion Animals will continue to be taught every semester, but Intro to Equine Science will only be offered in Fall semesters.

If you are graduating this semester, you will receive information in the mail just before Thanksgiving time. For baccalaureate students, the University ceremony begins at 8:30 a.m. on Wednesday, December 19 at the Entertainment and Sports Arena, and the Departmental ceremony will be in the McKimmon Center at 11:45 a.m. There is no limit to the number of people you can bring to the University ceremony because it will be at the Entertainment Sports Arena, but we do need to limit the number of guests who attend the Departmental ceremony. Every graduate will be allowed to bring 8 guests, and we will have a waiting list in 102 Polk for those who wish to bring more than 8 guests. As we hear from other graduates who are bringing fewer than 8 guests, we will shorten the waiting list.

For Agricultural Institute students, the graduation ceremony is at 3:00 p.m. at the McKimmon Center on the same day (Wednesday, December 19).

Graduation announcements may be obtained any time at the NCSU Bookstore (Dunn Avenue). Personalized announcements must be pre-ordered; it takes three to four weeks for them to arrive.

Cap and gown distribution will take place beginning Friday, December 7 at the NCSU Bookstore (Dunn Avenue) on the lower level. Please follow directional signs in the store. Undergraduate students graduating with honors will have the option of purchasing an honors sash for an additional fee. All graduation apparel must be paid for at the time of pick-up. The bookstore will be open for distribution as follows:

December 7-18 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
Saturdays 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.

If you are graduating next semester, please be sure to turn in your blue "Application for Degree" card, Graduation Worksheet, and Senior Survey to Dee Pryse in 102 Polk as soon as they are completed. We need to check through all of the cards and turn them in to Patterson Hall by the first day of Spring semester, so we would appreciate you getting those to us soon.

If you are a rising senior, please fill out a timetable of classes for your remaining two or three semesters. You can use this semester's and next semester's TRACS books to see what time the courses are offered, but be sure you are aware that some of our Discipline courses are only offered every other year (look at your blue or green curriculum sheet to see when they are offered). Planning your remaining semesters can prevent unhappy surprises, such as discovering that ANS 230 (Nutrition) and BCH 451 (Biochemistry) are both always taught MWF 9:10 to 10:00, and there is only one section of each.

If you need to pick up a copy of your curriculum sheet, the list of Humanities and Social Science courses, the list of ABC Electives, an On-Campus Learning Experience form (ANS 493), or any other academic form, please stop by 102 Polk Hall. We are open from 7:30 a.m. to noon and 1:00 to 4:30 p.m. (actually 5:00 unless Dr. Moore is teaching or in a meeting).

CLUBS

ANIMAL SCIENCE CLUB

Thirty-six members of the Animal Science Club and two advisors are traveling to Louisville, Kentucky for the national Block and Bridle Convention. The trip involves workshops, seminars, farm tours, and a visit to the North American International Livestock Exposition and Rodeo. One of our advisors, Dr. Moore, becomes vice president of the national organization at the convention.

Academic Quadrathlon: The Animal Science Club will have its annual Academic Quadrathlon on December 7 (Friday afternoon) and 8 (Saturday 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.). For December 7, teams of 4 can compete in the hands-on portion of the Quadrathlon at the Animal Educational Units. On Saturday, the teams will make oral presentations, take a written test, and compete in the Quiz Bowl, which ends up being fun and entertaining for all who participate. The winning team will compete in the Regional Academic Quadrathlon February 1-3, 2002 in Orlando, Florida.

The Companion Animal Club is having a great semester so far. We have had some very interesting speakers, and have many more planned for the rest of the year. We are going to the North Carolina Zoo on November 3 for a tour and to visit the Rehabilitation Center. We are also ordering more t-shirts. The next meeting and speaker will be announced at a later time. Anyone is welcome to come out and join us. PRE-VETERINARY MEDICAL ASSOCIATION

On November 3, we will be working at Carnivore Preservation Trust in Pittsboro, NC. At our next meeting on November 5, Dr. Lewbart will speak on aquatic medicine. Our November 19 speaker will be announced soon, and on December 3 we will have our Christmas party. Meetings are held in 3712 Bostian at 7:15 p.m.

RODEO CLUB

Two members (Ivey Pope and Mary Ruth Corbett) have been actively competing in NIRA (National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association) events, representing NCSU well. The Rodeo Club participated in NCSU's "Employee Appreciation Day" by showing people how to rope a plastic steer head. New Rodeo Club members are always welcome, so come to a meeting if you are interested! We meet on alternate Tuesday evenings after the Animal Science Club.
