Notes:
Law Enforcement activities by the Justice Department and the Treasury Department, and general government allocations for Congress, the Judiciary, and the President totaled approximately $30 billion for 1995. This amounts to 1.98% of the total budget for these two basic government activities.
Net interest paid on the National Debt totaled $232.2 billion in 1995 representing 15.29% of the federal budget. You may see a figure of $332.4 billion as the interest on public debt in some literature. The government does receive some interest payments from trust funds and other sources that offsets approximately $100 billion in interest on the public debt.
