There are instances where you will need to access materials in E-reserves or other resources or services at N.C. State, including Blackboard Vista and you will be prompted for your Unity ID and Password. The following is an explanation of how to figure out your Unity ID and Password for access to these resources and services:
Your id is your login. *Usually* your unity id is the first letter of your first name, the first letter of your middle name, and the first six letters of your last name. If more than one person has this same combination of letters then they will assign a number at the end of the id. This id may have been e-mailed or sent to you after registering for a class at N.C. State. More information on passwords is available through the Information Technology Division at http://www.ncsu.edu/it/essentials/your_unity_account/loginid.html.
Your password is the last four digits of your Campus ID number (follows the letters "NCSU" on your All Campus Card) plus the four digits of your birth month and day. Its essential that you change your password to something else other than this initial password and keep it safe somewhere. If you're ever prompted with a screen such as this, https://webauth.ncsu.edu/wrap-bin/was16.cgi?getuser (which is what you will see when accessing some materials in E-reserves), then all you should have to do is enter your login and password to get access. Change your password using the link below and then go to the previous link listed above an hour later to test your password to make sure that it works.
The following is the link to a page where students can change their passwords: https://www.cgibin.ncsu.edu/systems/password.html. Please inform the instructor if you have difficulty accessing course materials through the N.C. State E-reserves or quizzes and assignments in Blackboard Vista.
Pop-ups, Blackboard Vista, and ID Security
***Pop-up blocking features of
your web-browsers must be disabled in order
to take WebCT quizzes.***. You
may check your browser's compatibility
with Blackboard Vista, and make adjustments to your
browser so that you can use it in Vista
by going to the Vista browser tune up page
at http://www.webct.com/tuneup (must
have javascript enabled) or go to the Vista
tune-up information page at the following
URL:
http://www.webct.com/tuneup/viewpage?name=tuneup_browser_tuneup_information.
Notice: Please remember to logout out of any webpage you or on or system you are using AND close out your browser window. This will help decrease the likelihood that someone else can access your information or use online tools or sites such as Vista while using your identity. It is also a good idea to check to see if the browser you are using is set to store your log-in and password. These should be cleared before you leave the machine you are using.
Antivirus, Software, and Technical Support
Please install or update anti-virus software and definitions and also check to see that your operating system and software updates and patches are properly installed and functioning. Several security threats are currently circulating at this time and these actions will help to minimize any disruption to students and the instructor. You can access software and security information as well as help and technical support information on the Links page of this website.
Thank you.
