Scarab beetles are abundant; there are over 1,000 species just in North America.  They are diverse in size but can be recognized by their oval bodies, a five segmented tarsi, lamellate antennae, and a front tibiae that is scalloped.  They are usually found feeding on dung, plants, or flowers.
