Distinctive to this order, the assassin bugs have a three-segmented proboscis that fits into the prosternal groove between their front legs. Similar to many Hemiptera-Heteroptera, they have raptorial front legs, but they are covered in hairs and spines that are used against their prey. The abdomen on this insect is much wider than the rest of the body and exposes the segment behind the wings. Most assassin bugs are predaceous; however, some species are blood suckers.
