Key Characters:
‘True crickets’ are found in a variety of environments, including fields, houses, and trees. With the slight color variation, they are somewhat camouflaged. In contrast to the singing grasshoppers, these crickets are the only family able to hold a constant pitch. By rubbing their wings together, they can create a musical tone that is used to attract or warn another cricket. With a three-segmented tarsi and long antennae, they are a distinctive family of Orthoptera. |
