From 1904 to 1979, the Canal Zone was a U.S. Government Reservation with its own local government and postal service.   This stamp, issued September 24, 1962 as part of the World Health Organization's drive to eradicate malaria, is the only Canal Zone stamp ever to illustrate an insect.
