Morphos (family Morphidae) are large tropical butterflies known for their deep iridescent blue color.   Morpho vitrea, the species illustrated here, is found only in the rainforests of Colombia and Bolivia.   This stamp, issued November 17, 1976, is one of three in a set illustrating tropical butterflies.
