Aedes aegypti is the primary vector of yellow fever, a debilitating viral disease that was a major threat to human health throughout much of the 19th century.   A Cuban doctor, Carlos J. Finlay, first suggested the link between mosquitos and disease in 1881.   His memory is honored by this stamp issued by the government of Panama on January 12, 1950.
