The tsetse fly, Glossina morsitans (Diptera:   Muscidae), is native to central and southern Africa where it vectors the pathogens (trypanosomes) that cause African sleeping sickness in humans and a similar disease (called nagana) in domestic cattle and horses.   The African republic of Tanzania issued this stamp on April 22, 1987.
