SYLLABUS

ATTENDANCE POLICY: Students are required to attend all the pre-trip lectures.  Excused absences should be discussed with the instructor and make up work will be assigned in advance.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY: All students are expected to be honest and adhere to the general university guidelines regarding academic integrity found in the Code of Student Conduct.  Instances of academic dishonesty will be referred to the appropriate University administrator for action.  Honesty and integrity are expected in completion of all exams and assignments for this course.

GRADING POLICY: Course will be graded on a letter basis ABCDEF.  A= 90-100; B =  80-89;  C =  70-79;  D =  60-69; F = < 60.  Grades will be curved if warranted.  The course will not be graded on a + - basis.

COURSE PREREQUISITES: There are no specific prerequisites but an introductory plant pathology class is recommended.  Course is open to graduate students only.

INSTRUCTOR POLICY ON GRADES:   If a student is absent for an exam a makeup will be scheduled. All assignments are due on the dates shown.  Any exceptions should be discussed with the instructor prior to the due date of the assignment.

REQUIRED TEXT(S):
One text is required: H D. Thurston, 1998.  Tropical Plant Diseases, APS Press, St Paul, MN.   Selected reading from additional papers will be given to students.

FIELD TRIP POLICY:  Guidelines will be discussed for the March 2-8 trip.

GRADE DETERMINATION AND MAJOR ASSIGNMENTS:
Lecture participation - 33%
Term paper  - 33%
Field Trip participation - 34%
