The NCSU Insectary is a large, state-of-the-art facility designed to produce large numbers of high quality insects for research, extension, and education. The NCSU Insectary occupies approximately 3,000 square feet in the Biological Resources Facility on the main campus next to Gardner Hall. In the past year we have provided in excess of 8 million insects for 25 faculty and graduate student projects (in entomology, toxicology, and biochemistry); for hundreds of educational programs (e.g., |

scientist-teacher partnerships);
and for 30 industry, university, and government cooperators. Our services
alleviate individual projects from the burden and considerable start-up
costs of routine rearing of these species. The Insectary also provides
facilities for rearing colonies of various insects by individual projects.
