On Friday, April 13, 2012, Dr. Fred Gould was awarded the UNC system Oliver Max Gardner Award.
This award was established by NC Governor Oliver Max Gardner to recognize faculty who have "made the greatest contributions to the welfare of the human race." It has been given annually since 1949. It is the only award for which all faculty members of the 16 UNC campuses are eligible and is considered the UNC system's highest faculty honor. The award was presented by the Board of Governors of the UNC system.
Congratulations to Dr. Gould for this tremendous honor.
A short piece about Dr. Gould will air on WUNC-TV's "NC Now" on Tuesday, April 17 at 7:30 pm.
Note: Fred is the 3rd member of the Entomology Department to receive this award, joinng our first department head, Dr. Z.P. Metcalf (1955) and Dr. Frank Guthrie (1983).
