RESEARCH (100%)
Dr.
Jackson's research program is to develop improved insect control techniques
and management strategies that reduce pesticide use while maintaining
yield and quality of vegetable crops. The indentification and development
of insect-resistant germplasm and biological control by predators, parasites,
and pathogens are areas of reasearch emphasis. Research also includes
developing and implementing integrated pest management systems that provide
effective, economical, sustainable, and environmentally compatible management
of insect pests. Dr. Jackson also investigates the interactions between
insects, plants, and the environment in vegetable production systems.
This includes basic and applied research on the biology, ecology, behavior,
and population dynamics of these pests and their natural enemies.

CURRENT ACTIVITIES
Dr. Jackson
has been employed as a Research Entomologist by USDA-ARS since 1980. Currently,
he is stationed at the U.S. Vegetable Laboratory in Charleston, SC as
lead scientist in the entomology unit. Previous to his current assignment,
Dr. Jackson worked at Oxford, NC for 15 years (1980-1994) to develop improved
insect control techniques and integrated pest management strategies for
insect pests of tobacco.
