This is a special seminar given by the three NCSU faculty members that took part of a 10 d Sustainable Agriculture delegation to Cuba in January of this year. The NCSU faculty participants were Michelle Schroeder-Moreno (Crop Science), Julie Grossman (Soil Science) and myself , Yasmin Cardoza (Entomology), and we would like to share with you some of what we learned regarding food production systems in Cuba. Michelle will lead us in with an overview of the historical/political events leading to the “special period”, Julie will follow with information regarding soil fertility management and I will give an overview of the pest management strategies. We will also be happy to answer any questions you might have about traveling to Cuba and about our professional and personal experience there.
