One of the premier social events of the year for the Entomology Department is the annual softball game, which pits the faculty and staff against the graduate students. The game usually is played near the end of the spring semester, on a Friday afternoon. Faculty, staff and students play a seven-inning (or one-hour) softball game, and then all participants and spectators join in for a cookout after the game. The game and cookout take place on the NCSU intramural fields. The Entomology Graduate Student Association (EGSA) often sponsors a fall or spring picnic which is open to the all members of the department and their families. Events typically include volleyball, swimming, fishing, and plenty of good eating! Each person is asked to bring a covered dish to share, and beverages are provided. The picnics have always been a great opportunity to socialize with department friends and colleagues! To celebrate the holidays, the Entomology Department sponsors an annual holiday party every December. Guests bring a covered dish, and the department provides all of the main courses as well as beverages, door prizes, and holiday entertainment. The holiday party committee consists of faculty, staff, and students,
and has historically done an excellent job of providing a most enjoyable
holiday event to the entire department. |
