GRE (Graduate Record Examination)
The Department requires that applicants take the GRE (Graduate Record Exam). A minimum score of 300 (1000 under the old scoring system) is required for admission to the M.S. program. A score of 306 (1100 under the old scoring system) is required for admission to the Ph.D. program. International students must also take the GRE examination unless evidence is presented that it presents an undue hardship on the applicant. Due to the fact that the GRE is given in English at a stage early in the international student's career, adjustments are made for GRE scores of less than 300.
English Proficiency for International Students
In order to be eligible for admission to the Graduate School, all international applicants regardless of citizenship must demonstrate proficiency in English at a level necessary to be successful in a graduate program at NC State.
