Volunteer Duties

Horses require hoof trimmings every 8 weeks or so. Students are given the opportunity to learn how to help maintain the herd's hooves.
The daily care of a herd of horses can sometimes require treating different ailments like skin conditions, wounds, or minor illnesses.
Volunteers at the EEU sometimes help with demonstrations or labs for different classes at the university.
More experienced volunteers get to help train horses in preparation for the silent bid auctions. The horses are taught ground manners, lunged, ground driven, and put under saddle.
Horses at the EEU are fed three times a day.
Volunteers work with the foals in order to get them used to human contact. They are imprinted for a few days after birth, then handled on a regular basis to desensitize them to humans.
