Goodness truly grows in North Carolina -- from pork and poultry to pickles and sweetpotatoes. Agriculture and agribusiness -- food, fiber and forestry -- make up North Carolina’s No. 1 industry. The latest statistics indicate that farming -- which includes crops, livestock, aquaculture, ornamentals and turf -- produced an annual income of $8.3 billion. North Carolina ranks fourth nationally in diversity of the commodities produced. These lists tell just how strong this food chain is in North Carolina.
