The STRESSTECH Rheometer is a controlled stress, research grade instrument capable of measuring viscous and viscoelastic properties of liquids and solids. In addition, the rheometer is equipped with a closed pressure cell, permitting dynamic testing throughout the frequency range of the instrument at temperatures ranging from -15 to 200 degrees C.

The RIGOTECH is a unique analytical instrument for measuring shortening and isometric tension of meat in relation to rigor development and tenderness. Developed in conjunction with the Swedish Meat Research Institute, the instrument is used to determine the optimum cooling conditions for meat tenderness.

The Bohlin VOR is a controlled strain rheometer capable of characterizing the mechanical properties of viscoelastic materials by means of dynamic measurement, and measuring flow properties of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids in the steady shear mode.

The VT550 will provide the Rheology Lab with the ability to run temperature controlled, steady-shear rheological tests. The VT550 is also equipped with special attachments for investigation into electrorheological behavior.

The Instron Testing Machine is capable of performing single or multi-cycle uniaxial controlled deformation or load testing, providing the Laboratory with the ability to perform numerous empirical and fundamental tests.

The Torsion Gelometer is an instrument used for determining fundamental rheological properties of gels by twisting a dumbbell-shaped sample to failure. Torsion testing results have been successfully correlated with sensory texture profiles.

The Food Rheology Laboratory has five Brookfield Viscometers, along with an assortment of attachments and spindles used to measure the torque response required to rotate an immersed element in a fluid at a predetermined speed.

We also have the Brookfield YR-1 specifically for determination of yield stress.

The LFRA Texture Analyzer is a bench top instrument capable of controlled uniaxial deformation or load testing, providing numerous empirical, imitative, and fundamental rheological tests.
