About the
Campaign for Students...
Ms. Mozelle Costner-Parker, CALS Campaign for NC State Students
Co-Chair.
The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences at NC State University has undertaken a monumental fund raising effort, lasting through 1999, to dramatically increase - by some 350% - the endowment level for named student scholarships and fellowships in CALS.
On May 4,1997, Ms. Mozelle Parker, Co-Chair of the CALS Campaign for
NC State Students, announced at the CALS Scholarship Donor Recognition
Gala at the JC Raulston Arboretum a goal of $15,000,000 for
the College as a part of NC State's overall goal of $8O,OOO,OOO for the
student campaign. The CALS goal is the highest among the participating
units and colleges at NC State. As far as we know, there is not now, nor
has there ever been an undertaking by any other institution of higher learning
dedicated
entirely to increasing named scholarships and fellowships for students.
Offering Opportunities for All and Attracting the Best and Brightest...
Endowed scholarships and fellowships not only recognize and honor in
perpetuity those in whose honor they are created, but also provide resources
for many students who might not otherwise be able to attend NC State. In
addition, the prestige and financial support from your endowment will help
our College compete for the best and brightest students in agriculture
and the life sciences.
What better way to preserve your values and vision for a better NC State University, state of North Carolina, and indeed our nation? There are students who without your help may not be able to attend NC State. Yet, these students with the assistance and recognition of your scholarship may go on to achieve greatness in spirit and wealth, and, hopefully, some day establish a scholarship of their own.
Become a Part of the CALS Family...
As a scholarship or fellowship donor to the College, you are invited
to various special events including: the annual CALS Scholarship/Fellowship
Donor & Recipient Recognition Gala each May at the JC Raulston
Arboretum - where you will meet your recipient - special Dean's invitations
to TAILGATE and other alumni and friends parties, and other special
events put on by the College. In addition, you will annually receive a
personal letter from your endowment recipient, a letter from the Director
of Academic Programs about your new recipient, and a financial update on
your endowment each December from the CALS Foundations Office. For donors
who create their endowment through an estate gift, you will become members
of The R Stanhope Pullen Society and receive invitations to their
functions. Donors whose total lifetime gifts to NC State University are
greater than $50,000 become members of the Lifetime Giving Societies
and
will receive an invitation to their annual induction and recognition gala.
A Gift to Students...Our Future...Forever...and it's Tax Deductible!
Listed below are various options for you to consider in establishing your endowment for students in CALS. The scholarship and fellowship options are as follows:
Endowment Options
Merit Based Scholarships or Fellowships: These endowments are generally for students with a 2.5 GPA on a 4.0 scale. In addition, they must have demonstrated leadership and involvement in other community and service activities.
Need Based Scholarships or Fellowships: These endowments are for students who qualify for financial aid through the University Financial Aid Office. Note: a student coming to NCSU from a family owned farm may not qualify for a need based only scholarship because of the ownership of land and equipment assets by the family.
Merit/Need Based (combination) Scholarships of Fellowships:These are endowments for which a student must have good academic credentials, first, and also demonstrate financial need. There is greater flexibility in determining financial need with this endowment.
Note: you may make any of the options above renewable for student recipients, for up to four years for a scholarship and three years for a fellowship, provided your recipient maintains good academic standing, demonstrated financial need, or both, in the case of a combination endowment.
Four Year Majors or Graduate Students: Your endowment can be specified to a particular department, curriculum area, or, if you wish, open to all students in the College. You may also restrict your awards (if you want) to applicants only from a certain county, state, or country, or again have the award completely open to any student in CALS.
Two Year/Agricultural Institute Students: With this option, you may dedicate your endowment to students in this fast growing, two year program in a particular field of study and/or a certain county, state or country; or keep your award open to all Institute students.
