The information contained on these pages is public, however, we do not provide fund raising assistance to outside organizations unless involved in a College partnership.  Non-College employees are welcome to contact these funders directly for updated information.


The corporations listed below have indicated giving interests in at least one of the following categories: animals, capital campaigns, the environment, family services, higher education, public education, scholarships, youth programs, zoological societies. Corporations are listed alphabetically by application due dates.

Alex Lee, Incorporated - Alex Lee is a holding company involved in the food, supermarket and food transportation industries. The company sponsors a foundation, and while additional contributions are made by the company and its subsidiaries, no specific information is available.

George Foundation, Incorporated - The foundation accepts requests for funding. Contributions are made primarily to organizations in communities where the company has employees, specifically in the Hickory and Winston-Salem areas. The foundation makes donations only to qualified public charities. Foundation giving interests include arts and culture, capital campaigns, civic programs, community and economic development, education (general), education foundations, social services, sports and athletics, and United Way.

American Express Company - American Express is a holding company for charge and credit card services, travel and tourism services, banking services, and insurance and investment services. The company accepts requests for direct giving, in-kind gifts, matching gifts, and sponsors a charitable foundation.

American Express Philanthropic Program - The company participates in direct giving, in-kind gift, and matching gift programs. The company concentrates its giving on national programs, international programs, and in communities where the company has employees. No grants are awarded to: individuals, political causes, fundraising events, endowments or capital campaigns, dinner programs, books, magazines, journals, religious causes, fraternal organizations, or to organizations that discriminate on the basis of sex, race, or religion. Giving interests include arts and culture, education (general), environment, health and hospitals, historic preservation, and minorities. In-kind gifts are awarded as volunteer staff time and donated services. Although there is no deadline, the board meets in February and each fall.

American Express Foundation - The company's foundation has a history of funding some North Carolina programs. Emphasis is placed on organizations in AZ, CA, CO, DC, FL, GA, IL, MA, MN, NC, NE, NY, PA, TX and UT. International giving focuses on Japan, Canada, Europe, Latin America and Asia. No grants are awarded to: individuals, political causes, fundraising events, endowments or capital campaigns, dinner programs, books, magazines, journals, religious causes, fraternal organizations, or to organizations that discriminate on the basis of sex, race, or religion.

AMR Corporation/American Airlines, Incorporated - AMR Corporation provides aviation services through American Airlines and/or American Eagle to North Carolina cities at the following airports: RDU International, Piedmont Triad International, Charlotte International, and Asheville Regional. Other cities serviced by the company include Wilmington, Fayetteville, New Bern, Greenville, and Jacksonville. The company sponsors an in-kind giving program and sponsors a charitable foundation.

Corporate Contributions - The company participates in an in-kind giving program. The kinds of gifts awarded are donated products and services as well as travel for certain charitable organizations and for children under the age of 18 who are in need of special medical attention.

The foundation tries to focus its resources on organizations in those communities where it operates a hub or has a major facility and/or employee base. The foundation receives contributions directly from American Airlines, Inc. and from two charities, Flagship Charities and Chicago Charities, that are associations of employees of American Airlines.

AT&T Corporation - AT&T provides national and international telecommunications services and miscellaneous communications and information management systems. The company accepts requests for direct giving, in-kind gifts, matching gifts, and sponsors a charitable foundation.

Corporate Giving Program - The corporate giving program operates in communities where AT&T has a concentration of employees and customers. In addition to direct giving the company sponsors in-kind giving. The AT&T University Equipment Donation Program provides computer laboratories to selected colleges and universities. The company also supports volunteer staff time as in-kind giving. The Equipment Donation Program is invitational only and is not open to unsolicited requests

AT&T Foundation - The foundation provides grants to national and international programs. The foundation matches contributions by AT&T employees and retirees to higher educational and cultural institutions throughout the country equally, thereby providing a way for the foundation to extend its giving to institutions that might otherwise be ineligible for funding. The foundation supports nonprofit institutions and projects concerned with higher education, social action, health care and the arts. The foundation provides aid to communities primarily through the United Way.

Bank of Granite Corporation - Bank of Granite serves as a bank holding company. The company accepts requests for direct funding and sponsors a charitable foundation.

Corporate Contributions - The company accepts requests for direct funding.

Bank of Granite Foundation - The foundation gives to organizations in North Carolina, with emphasis on giving to organizations in Caldwell County. Foundation giving interests include arts and culture, education (general), environment, social services, and sports and athletics. The foundation does not accept unsolicited applications for funding, and makes contributions only to preselected charities.

Barclays American/Mortgage Corporation - Barclays American has been sold and no longer operates as a mortgage banking institution. Barclays Bank Commercial Group of Charlotte operates the foundation, which has not been affected by the sale of the subsidiary. The foundation has no printed guidelines.

Barclays Bank Foundation - The foundation has historically awarded grants on a national level, with most of the recipients being in North Carolina. The foundation does not award grants to individuals. The foundation giving interests include arts and culture, community funds, education (general), higher education, minorities, social services, and youth and family services. A governing board meets quarterly to review grant requests and decide funding priorities.

Baxter Healthcare Corporation - Baxter Healthcare is an international manufacturer and marketer of healthcare products. The company sponsors a direct giving program, an in-kind giving program, a matching gifts program, and a foundation.

Corporate contributions - The company places an emphasis on giving in communities where it has operations. The company's North Carolina subsidiary contributes primarily to organizations in the McDowell County area. Corporate giving interests include health and hospitals and social services. In-kind giving consists of donated equipment, donated products, use of facilities, and donated land.

Belk Stores Services, Incorporated - Belk Stores Services owns and operates department stores under several different partnerships in the different regions of North Carolina and the Southeast. The company and its multiple subsidiaries sponsor several charitable foundations, the most prominent of which are The Belk Foundation and The Belk Tyler Foundation. Each of the more than 375 Belk-affiliated department stores operates as an individual corporation.

Corporate Contributions - Some stores have discretionary funds to use for smaller contributions in their immediate communities.

The Belk Foundation - Most of the recipients are in North Carolina and/or in areas where Belk Stores Services and its subsidiaries operate. There are no established restrictions. The foundation giving interests include arts and culture, capital campaigns, civic programs, education foundations, environment, health and hospitals, higher education, private education, scholarships, social services, United Way, and youth and family services.

The Belk Tyler Foundation - The purpose of the foundation is to: aid groups of young people or adult members of any regularly organized Protestant church to be leaders for special training in religious work or to attend religious camps or training centers; aid any organized church to carry on its mission work; aid churches in purchasing and circulating religious literature; aid and support churches of various denominations; aid YMCAs and YWCAs in their regular activities; aid and contribute to the support of public libraries; aid any of the civic organizations (community chests, American Red Cross, etc.) and other publicly supported institutions; and aid and contribute to the support of American universities, colleges, and secondary schools meeting IRS code section 101(c). All recipients were in North Carolina. No grants are awarded to individuals. The foundation does not normally accept unsolicited applications for funding.

BellSouth Corporation - BellSouth serves as a holding company for telecommunications services and provides telecommunication services to nine southern states, including North Carolina. The company sponsors a direct giving program, a matching gifts program, and a foundation.

Corporate contributions - The company typically confines contributions to organizations that benefit communities in regions it services. Funding is not awarded to: individuals or families; organizations that are not eligible for tax-exempt status; organizations that discriminate based on race, color, religion, gender, disability or national origin; political organizations or campaigns; lobbying groups; special events or good will advertising; religious organizations (with possible exceptions for church affiliated hospitals, clinics, educational institutions, and community outreach programs); fraternal and veterans groups; labor organizations; and organizations performing primarily medical research that must be monitored or evaluated for performance results. The company's matching gift program matches employee contributions to educational institutions and arts and cultural programs. Gifts are matched 2:1 with a maximum of $2,500 for educational institutions and 1:1 for arts and cultural programs. BI-LO, Incorporated - BI-LO operates a chain of grocery stores in North and South Carolina. The company accepts requests for direct giving.

Corporate Contributions - The company focuses its giving on organizations dealing with children's health and educational issues and combating hunger in communities where the company has stores. The giving interests include education (general), health and hospitals, hunger (food banks), and youth and family services.

Bibb Company, Incorporated - The Bibb Company manufactures a variety of fabrics, yarns, and finished products such as blankets, comforters, towels, and bed sheets. The company participates in direct and in-kind giving, and also sponsors a charitable foundation that has a history of awarding grants to North Carolina organizations.

Corporate Contributions - The company makes cause-related marketing and donates services.

The Bibb Foundation - The foundation concentrates its giving on providing funds to higher educational institutions and organizations and programs involved with the arts and humanities. BlueCross BlueShield of North Carolina - BlueCross BlueShield provides dental and health/hospital insurance services. According to the company's spokesperson, the company is not allowed to make financial contributions due to certain regulations set down by the NC General Assembly. An in-kind giving program provides limited support to programs that benefit the company's members.

Bridgestone/Firestone, Incorporated - Bridgeston/Firestone manufactures and distributes tires and produces air springs, synthetic rubber, roofing materials and industrial textiles. The company has a corporate giving program and sponsors a charitable foundation that provides support to organizations in communities where it has a major operating facility.

Corporate Contributions - Organizations should contact the local facilities to submit requests for funding.

Bridgestone/Firestone Trust Fund - Organizations from Bridgestone/Firestone communities should contact the local facilities to submit requests for funding. Organizations in other communities should contact the foundation headquarters directly for additional information or to determine the foundation's interest in funding a grant request. No grants are awarded to partisan political organizations, religious organizations, or organizations that discriminate. Bryant Supply Company - Bryant Supply manages the wholesale of electrical equipment and related supplies. The company accepts requests for funding.

Corporate contributions- Corporate giving interests include health and hospitals, religion, sports and athletics, disabled children, Shriners' hospitals, Holy Angels Nursery, Special Olympics, and child-related illness prevention.

Burlington Industries, Incorporated - Burlington Industries is a diversified manufacturer of textiles, fabrics, yarns, carpets and draperies. The company provides in-kind gifts, matching gifts and sponsors a charitable foundation.

Corporate Giving - The company provides in-kind gifts consisting of donations of equipment, product, services and volunteer staff time.

Burlington Industries Foundation - The foundation typically awards grants and offers a matching gifts program to match gifts of employees, retired employees and directors to eligible educational institutions. The foundation gives priority to higher education and to organizations that improve the quality of life in communities where the company employees live. Such organizations include hospitals and healthcare facilities, United Way and local community projects, civic organizations, and art and culture programs.

Carlyle & Company - Carlyle & Company owns and operates retail jewelry stores. The company sponsors a charitable foundation.

Carlyle & Company Foundation - The foundation does not accept unsolicited requests for funding. The foundation makes contributions only to preselected charitable organizations. The foundation giving interests include international affairs, private education, health and hospitals, religion, and youth and family services.

Carolina MediCorp, Incorporated - Carolina MediCorp is involved with a variety of medical services, which include hospital and nursing home management and the leasing of medical equipment. The company accepts requests for funding.

For the in-kind giving program, the company gives gifts of volunteer staff time and use of facilities. The purpose is to encourage employees to volunteer time to organizations such as the United Way, Cities In Schools, and Junior Achievement. The matching gifts program matches employee contributions 1:1 to approved organizations.

Carolina Steel Corporation - Carolina Steel manufactures and distributes fabricated steel and concrete products and operates a steel services center. The company accepts requests for direct funding and matching gifts, as well as supporting foundation grants throughout the Winston-Salem Foundation

Corporate Contributions - Corporate giving interests include environment, higher education, historic preservation and United Way.

Century Furniture Industries - Century Furniture manufactures residential upholstered furniture. The corporation sponsors a charitable foundation.

Century Foundation - The foundation does not accept unsolicited requests for contributions. Most of the grant recipients are in North Carolina. The foundation giving interests include social services, education (general), arts and culture, health and hospitals, environment and religion.

Champion International Corporation - Champion International manufactures paper, pulp, plywood, paperboard, Kraft packaging paper, and hardwood. The company accepts requests for direct and in-kind giving.

Corporate Contributions - The company sponsors both direct and in-kind giving programs in the areas of civic programs, social services, arts and culture, minorities, higher education, elementary and secondary education, and environment. There are no deadlines, although contributions are budgeted one year in advance. Champion's Contributions Program will not fund organization that do not have 501(c)(3) tax-exempt status; organizations that practice discrimination by race, color, creed, sex, age, or national origin; individuals; political candidates or organizations; religious organizations (with the exception of non-sectarian, community-wide programs); organizations with a limited constituency, such as fraternities or veterans' groups; national or local chapters of disease-specific organizations; tickets to dinners, benefits, and other fund-raising events; conferences, sports events, and other one-time, short-term activities; goodwill advertisements for benefit purposes; supplementary operating funds for agencies already supported through the United Way; community organizations not in a Champion community. The Champion Fund for Community Service Program provides grants to community service organizations where Champion employees regularly volunteer. Grants range from $100 to $1,000. A committee of Champion employees evaluates all requests and determines the appropriate amount for each grant. The Matching Gifts Program provides dollar-for-dollar match for personal contributions made by employees and retirees to eligible nonprofit, civic and community, health and human service, arts and culture, and educational organizations. Additionally, the company supports a scholarship program for the children of Champion employees and provides support for colleges and universities from which the company recruits personnel.

CIBA-Geigy Corporation - CIBA-Geigy manufactures pharmaceuticals and chemical agricultural products. The company accepts requests for direct giving.

CIBA-Geigy Corporate Giving Program - Each operating location of CIBA-Geigy has its own contributions committee. The parent company does not operate a centralized contributions program and does not directly support a foundation. Coats American, Incorporated - Coats American manufactures individual sewing thread. The company sponsors a foundation that awards scholarships to the children of company employees.

American Thread Educational Foundation - The foundation awards scholarships to children of Coats American employees only.

Coca-Cola Bottling Company Consolidated - Coca-Cola is involved with the bottling, canning, and distributions of soft drinks produced by the Coca-Cola Company. A charitable foundation sponsored by Coca-Cola of Atlanta, GA, makes some grants to North Carolina organizations.

Coca-Cola Foundation - The foundation's mission is to foster and promote a favorable environment for business growth by supporting education and related community needs, thereby enhancing the reputation of the company. The foundation's objectives are to give youth the educational opportunities and support systems they need to become knowledgeable and productive citizens. Education is a fundamental means to help individuals reach their full potential. The foundation, by committing its resources to education, can help to address society's greatest educational challenges and provide quality learning opportunities. The foundation does not award grants to individuals; religious, political, fraternal, or veterans organizations; charitable dinners or fundraising events; and advertising in magazines, journals or other publications. The foundation awards grants only to tax-exempt organizations. The foundation interests include education (general), higher education, social services, arts and culture, media and communications, and health and hospitals.

Cogentrix Incorporated - Cogentrix is involved with the development and management of coal-generated energy and steam production facilities. The company accepts requests for funding.

Corporate contributions - Although the company entertains funding requests from all kinds of organizations, children's issues have recently become a priority for the company's direct grants. Corporate giving interests include youth and family services.

Collins & Aikman Group, Incorporated - Collins & Aikman Group manufactures wallpaper and auto and floor fabrics. The company sponsors a charitable foundation that makes grants to organizations in communities where the company has operations.

Collins & Aikman Foundation - This foundation was formerly the Collins & Aikman Holdings Foundation, which was formerly the Wickes Foundation of California. Giving is restricted to communities near the company's operating locations. The company has operating locations in the following North Carolina cities: Albermarle, Charlotte, Greensboro, Norwood, Roxboro and Spindale. The foundation also manages a matching gifts program.

Cone Mills Corporation - Cone Mills manufactures cotton and other synthetic fabrics. The company sponsors a charitable foundation and makes direct and in-kind contributions.

Cone Mills Corporate Giving Program - The company accepts requests for funding for direct and in-kind giving.

ABC Foundation, Incorporated - Grants generally are awarded in the area of operations, with a heavy slant toward funding scholarships for employees' children. The foundation giving interests include social services, higher education, education (general), arts and culture, and sports and athletics.

Cummins Engine Company - Cummins Engine designs, manufactures and distributes engines and engine-related parts and power systems. The company sponsors a charitable foundation and makes a limited number of direct gifts.

Corporate contributions - The company makes a relatively small number of direct contributions each year. Corporate giving interests include community/economic development, arts and culture, elementary and secondary education, minority programs, United Way, women's issues, social services, youth and family services, and youth programs.

Dana Corporation - Dana Corporation manufactures and distributes automotive parts and industrial components. The company sponsors a charitable foundation, a matching gifts program, and an in-kind giving program.

Corporate Contributions - The company sponsors an in-kind giving program, which includes donations of equipment, services and volunteer staff time. The company's subsidiaries also make contributions directly from corporate funds. The company does not release information about direct giving.

Dana Corporation Foundation - The foundation does not award grants to individuals. Special emphasis is given to national organizations and to organizations in communities where the company has operating facilities/employees. Special emphasis is also given to programs and organizations that have the greatest involvement by, or greatest potential to affect Dana employees. Foundation giving interests include arts and culture, capital campaigns, civic programs, health and hospitals, United Way, and youth and family services. Funding is also available through a matching gift program sponsored by the Dana Corporation Foundation. Any accredited university, college, community college, public or private school or vocational school in the United States to which tax-deductible gifts may be made is eligible to receive matching gifts no smaller than $25 and no larger than $5,000 per employee per calendar year.

Dillard Paper Company - Dillard Paper Company manufactures and distributes paper products. The company sponsors a charitable foundation and accepts requests for direct giving.

Corporate Contributions - Although there is no deadline, requests are reviewed quarterly.

Dillard Fund, Incorporated - No grants are awarded to individuals or for partisan political programs. Foundation giving interests include education (general), social services, arts and culture, environment, health and hospitals, and religion.

Dixie Yarns, Incorporated - Dixie Yarns manufactures value-added textiles and floor covering products for specialty markets. Its textile products include yarns, industrial sewing threads and knit fabrics. The company's floor covering business is a leading carpet supplier to the manufactured housing and recreational vehicle industries, produces high-end residential and commercial carpets, designer rugs, and carpet and rug yarns. The company accepts requests for direct giving and sponsors a charitable foundation.

Duke Power Company - Duke Power provides electric utility services to communities in North and South Carolina. The company sponsors a charitable foundation and a matching gifts program.

Duke Power Company Foundation - The foundation normally supports those organizations, institutions and programs that can demonstrate a broad base of support from the business and civic communities. Support is directed in the areas of health and human services, education, culture and art, and civic programs and issues. The foundation also manages several distinct programs including a scholarship program (applications due October 15th in the year prior to the need). The foundation also operates a matching gifts program. Through its Share the Warmth program, the foundation matches public contributions (up to $400,000) to distribute to needy families for payment of home heating bills. The foundation also matches employee gifts to educational institutions up to $12,000 per individual per year. The foundation will not award grants to: political candidates; hospitals supported by the Duke Endowment; sectarian religious, veteran, or fraternal organizations; individuals except within scholarship programs; projects, institutions or organizations to which the foundation would be the only donor; organizations that would constitute a taxable expenditure. Less stringent limitations involve the foundation not awarding grants to: organizations outside the Duke Power service areas; organizations supported primarily through tax revenues; and other foundations whose contributions program an on-going basis duplicates the contributions program of the foundation. The foundation normally supports those organizations, institutions and programs located within the company's service areas. On occasion and for special reasons, the foundation may support those outside the service area. The foundation makes contributions only to 501(c)(3) organizations.

Easton Corporation - The Easton Corporation manufactures and distributes automotive and related electronic components. The company sponsors a charitable foundation and a matching gifts program.

Corporate contributions - Eaton employee gifts to accredited colleges, universities and secondary schools are double matched by the company. The giving interests include higher education and public schools.

Eaton Charitable Fund - The purpose of the charitable foundation is awarding grants for general operating support to educational, health, human service, medical research, civic and cultural organizations, and independent college funds. These organizations plus hospitals and accredited colleges and universities qualify for capital grants. There are no deadlines, but requests are reviewed monthly. The foundation does not award grants to religious, fraternal or labor organizations. The company vigorously supports the United Way concept and avoids contributing to organizations that choose not to be a part of local United Way campaigns.

Ernst & Young - Ernst & Young provides accounting and financial services, in addition to management consulting. The company provides services to organizations throughout North Carolina. The company sponsors a charitable foundation and a matching gifts program, as well as direct giving.

Corporate contributions - Each operating location has the ability to award grants. The Directors of Human Resources at these locations serve as the local contacts for centralized direct giving. The company also provides funding for the North Carolina Community Foundation.

Ernst & Young Foundation - The Directors of Human Resources at each operating location serve as the local contacts to the foundation. Foundation giving interests include public policy, education (general), higher education and minorities. The foundation also governs the matching gifts program, which has giving interests in the areas of higher education, education foundations and minorities.

First Union Corporation - First Union serves as a holding company for banks located throughout North Carolina and the Southeast. The company sponsors a charitable foundation and a matching gifts program.

First Union Foundation - The foundation provides grants and matching gifts to organizations in several states.
