Recent CV (MS Word document)
In my role as Senior Researcher, I manage the site and research projects at the Horticulture Genomics Laboratory.
My laboratory work includes techniques such as: nucleic acid extractions, aseptic cell culture, bacterial and plant transformation, capillary sequencing, robotics maintenance, AFLP, cloning, southern hybridizations, library production and experimental design in microarrays, physical mapping, and hybridization of genomic and EST libraries.
I have used these techniques in various projects including the following: generating AFLP fingerprints to identify sweetpotato, Ipomoea batatas, cultivars at the NCSU Micropropagation Unit, assessment of genetic drift in clonally propagated sweetpotatoes via AFLP, fabricating a sweetpotato storage-root microarray, sequencing BAC-ends for the tobacco, Nicotiana tabacum, genomic library, and genotypic identification of sweetpotato weevil, Cylas formicarius, populations throughout the southeastern U.S. and the Caribbean.
In addition to laboratory work, I have performed field research with pesticide application and insect population dynamics in species such as Myzus nicotianae, Manduca sexta, and Heliothis virescens. Greenhouse and other field research that I have performed includes clonal propagation of Ipomoea batatas, documenting cross-resistance of Myzus nicotianae to organophosphates and carbamates, and breeding Heliothis virescens to identify genes useful in integrated pest management. |
