When we design gardens we are creating experiences, whether they are compelling, engaging, astounding, outrageous, inspirational or soothing. I would argue that much of this dynamic fusion of landscape with emotion comes with the visual and sensory elements provided by plants in combination with the spatial dimensions that their basic structure may impart to a landcape. Integrating this art of planting design with the science of creating and preserving vibrant and sustainable landscapes represent principles and practices that, with careful observation and study, can be learned. My courses include: Principles of Ornamental Planting Design, Landscape Horticulture and Landscape Graphics.
