Obituary
ROY AXEL LARSON, 71, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday night, January
8, 2003. He was a faithful member of Western Boulevard Presbyterian
Church where he served as deacon, elder, and other positions.
He was born on February 5, 1931 in Cloquet, Minnesota, the son of the
late Oscar B. and Alma N. Larson. He graduated from Cloquet High School
in 1949 and received his bachelor's and masters degree from the University
of Minnesota and his doctorate from Cornell University. He served his
country in the U.S. Army in Korea (1953-1955). He retired in August
1996 from North Carolina State University with 35 years of service as
a horticultural science professor, specializing in poinsettias, azaleas
and other greenhouse crops. During his career, he spent 46 years conducting
research on poinsettias. In his lifetime, he collected more than 750
floral and other unusual neckties.
He is survived by his loving wife of nearly 50 years, Darlyne; son,
Alan and his wife, Anisa and their children, Lee, Bradley, and Shelby
of Clayton; son, Jeffrey of Burke VA; daughter, Linda Stone and her
husband, Tracy and their children, Alex and Erin of Fuquay-Varina; son,
Brian and his wife, Shannon and their children, Forrest, Elliot and
Olivia of Yuma, CO. Also surviving are a sister, Mae Edwards of Cloquet,
MN; brother-in-law and sisterin-law, Robert and Helen Hagen of Catalua,
GA; numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Carl "Benny" Larson
of Cloquet, Minnesota.
He was past president of Wake Men's Garden Club, President of American
Society of Horticultural Science, member of the Society of American
Florists, member of North Carolina Commercial Flower Growers and member
of Ohio Florists Association. He received the Outstanding Teacher Award
from N.C. State University.
The Larson family wishes to extend their deepest appreciation to Drs.

Funeral service will be held at Western Boulevard Presbyterian Church,
on January 11, 2003 at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Restlawn Memorial
Gardens.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday
at Brown-Wynne Funeral Home, 200 SE Maynard Road in Cary.
