Horticulture Highlights - Fall 2002

Organic farming systems are currently the largest growth sector in U.S. agriculture. In 1994, the Center for Environmental Farming Systems was established at the North Carolina Department of Agriculture Cherry Farm near Goldsboro. This unique Center is a partnership among North Carolina State University, North Carolina Agriculture and Technical State University, North Carolina Department of Agriculture & Consumer Services, and other state and federal agencies, farmers and citizens.

The program is directed by Nancy Creamer, and involves research on organic farming methods, student internship programs, and training sessions for those interested in starting organic production of crops.
