Horticultural Science

The Department of Horticultural Science accepts graduate students for study leading to the M.Hort., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees.

Those interested in graduate school in Horticultural Science at North Carolina State University should follow the procedures listed below:

  • Determine whether there are graduate faculty working in an area of interest to you
  • Check your qualifications for graduate school:
    • Background courses (calculus, physics, chemistry, organic chemistry)
    • Biology courses (botany, plant pathology, entomology, soils)
    • GPA of 3.0 or better
    • GRE scores of 500 or better on verbal, quantitative, analytical tests
    • TOEFL scores of 300 (213 provisional) or better (for those with non-native English)
    • (you will need three 3 of recommendation from instructors or supervisors)
  • Check Graduate School requirements and deadlines
  • Contact the graduate administrator for assistantships information and other questions
  • Available assistantship advertisements
  • Make use of orientation information (example: cucurbit breeding orientation)
