Horticultural Science

The department of Horticultural Science at North Carolina State University offers undergraduate programs leading to the Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree.

There are two majors options in Horticultural Science, Technology Horticultural Science (THS) and Science Horticultural Science (SHS). Each option requires a minimum of 128 semester hours of credit for graduation. The SHS option has three concentration choices while the THS option has two concentration choices.

The THS option is intended for those students who plan a career in the plant-related business, teaching, work at the county extension level, production, etc. after they graduate. The SHS option is intended for, but not limited to those students who feel they will go to graduate school or pursue a laboratory based career.

HS-Science Concentrations

  • SHV - Fruits and Vegetables
  • SHF - Floriculture (mostly greenhouse production)
  • SHO - Ornamental Horticulture (nursery management)

HS-Technology Concentrations

  • THG - General Horticulture (broad based approach)
  • THL - Landscape Horticulture (design and ornamental horticulture)
