Programs
Horticultural crops will increase in importance markedly as planet earth changes with increases in population and decreases in good land for the production of valuable food crops. Production of extensive grain crops will decrease and intensive horticultural crops increase. This reality is becoming recognized as a department and is leading us into the planning and research required to accommodate these changes.
Since 1989, 45 international graduate students from all continents (including 30 from 15 emerging economies) have earned degrees in the department of Horticultural Science. Most have returned to their home countries to provide the needed scientific expertise for agricultural advancements. These alumni have been excellent partners for international collaborations with the department.
