Graduate Degree Information

The Department of Horticultural Science at North Carolina State University offers graduate programs leading to the Master of Science (MS) and Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degrees. A thesis based on original research is required for these degrees. Completion of these degrees normally takes 2 to 2 1/2 years for the Masters and 3 to 3 1/2 years for the Doctor of Philosophy.

For students who do not plan further graduate study or who wish to substitute additional courses for the research requirements in their graduate programs, the Master of Horticultural Science (MHS) degree is offered. Generally, this is considered a terminal degree.

Those interested in applying for graduate school should go to the Graduate Admissions page. New arrivals should see Getting Established.
