Partnership with Moldova |
| In January 2001, former Gov. Hunt appointed the Moldova Task Force, which is chaired by Secretary of State, Elaine Marshall, and former NC Representative Philip Baddour. As a part of this collaboration, an exchange of faculty between NCSU and the State Agrarian University of Moldova (SAUM) was developed. This faculty exchange program continued for several years. A grant from the Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs was provided to NCSU in 2003 to continue partnering with the Agrarian State University for another three years. During 2003, five NCSU faculty visited the campus of SAUM, and in 2004, four SAUM faculty specialists in post-harvest technology visited CALS at NCSU. This grant was successfully completed in August 2006. CALS faculty have hosted Moldovan farmers and businessmen on a number of occasions in the past several years. In December 2002, Vladimir Voronin, President of Moldova, accompanied by a large delegation from Moldova was hosted by CALS in his visit to the NCSU campus. We continue to work closely with the N.C. Secretary of State’s office and the North Carolina National Guard as well as other government and educational institutions both in North Carolina and in Moldova. For example, the North Carolina Cooperative Extension Service has a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Agency for Rural Development (NARD) in Moldova and is pursuing collaborative work in Extension with that organization. |
