CALS Academic and Administrative Technology
Overview of Services
Overall
- IT services and operations for on-campus instructional facilities and technology-assisted instruction, college, departmental, and extension administration, and NCARS--specifically:
- Deans Office
- Business Office
- Academic Programs (including Agricultural Institute and Career Services)
- NC Agricultural Research
- Extension Administration (PC users only, includes PODS)
- Foundations (network, desktop, and applications support)
- Personnel
- International Programs
- Communication Services
- Any other academic or research programs designated by the applicable Director
- Software and web development for the Deans Office, Academic Programs, the Business Office, and NC Agricultural Research
- Leadership in a proactive, continuous improvement process for the use of technology in college academic and administrative operations, to include needs assessments, research and development, hardware and software evaluation and implementation, training and documentation, and evaluation
- Leadership in disaster recovery/business continuity planning and implementation as it relates to on-campus information technology
- Representation of college technology interests to other university organizations, including information technology, financial and registrations offices, DELTA, other colleges, and IT-focused committees
Instructional Facilities Operations
- Multimedia equipment purchasing, installation, operation, and maintenance in 110 classrooms
- Interface with the Facilities Division and other university offices on classroom design, maintenance, operation, repair
- Purchasing, installation, and maintenance of computing equipment for college student computing labs
- Computing lab operations, including onsite lab assistant support
- Faculty and staff training for facilities and equipment use
- Evaluation and implementation of faculty-requested software
- Expenditure and management of ETF funds allocated for student facilities
- Development and maintenance of technical information, security alert system, etc. for CALS students
Networking, Hardware, and Applications
- Operation and maintenance of administrative servers
- Operation and maintenance of instructional servers
- Operation and maintenance of college web and database servers
- Administration of user accounts
- Development, maintenance, and augmentation of the administrative standard computing environment
- Development, maintenance, and augmentation of the student standard computing environment
Management and coordination of college-wide digital security measures- Coordination of disaster recovery planning and implementation activities related to digital technology (excluding off-campus Extension) and primary liaison to the university committee for disaster planning
- Technical consulting to departmental IT support staffs (second level support) and preparation and dissemination of hardware and software guidelines
- Training for administrative computing users
- Management of help desk operations, including documentation development, for on-campus staff in applicable units
Applications and Web Development
- Technical liaison with university financial computing services (EIS, ACS), Registration and Records, and any other pertinent data ownersDatabase management
- Development and maintenance of college-specific business and reporting applications
- Development and maintenance of other college administration applications
- Development and maintenance of data collection and reporting tools not included in the above
- Maintenance of collaborative development partnerships with DELTA, Veterinary Medicine, and other university units, as appropriate.
- Development and maintenance of all college-level web pages (Deans Office, general college, Academic Programs, Research, Business Office)
- Management of college electronic mailing lists
- Development and maintenance of web-based software applications for faculty/student use
