Food Safety is a continuum of responsibility from production to consumption. North Carolina's Alliance for Food Safety is unique in its ability to address each element of the continuum though an extensive network of research and extension collaborations. Eleven academic departments in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and two academic departments in the College of Veterinary Medicine are partnered in the Alliance. In addition to strengths in food safety research and extension, the Alliance faculty have teamed together to offer a Food Safety Graduate Minor. The objective of the minor is to train graduate students in the sciences associated with food safety throughout the production to consumption continuum. Armed with this broad based appreciation and understanding of food safety, these students are well equipped to successful manage the food safety challenges associated with industry, regulatory, and academic careers.
