Research Interests:

Carbohydrate metabolism and photosynthesis in spaceflight and altered gravity environments. Use of bioregenerative life support methods for solar system exploration. Methods for growing plants in space.

Teaching Interests:

Instructor of "Space Biology" (BO 277), an undergraduate course at NC State University. Yearly participant in the Space Life Sciences Training Program at Kennedy Space Center. Outreach team member for the NSCORT. Scientific editor for the web-based "Space Biology Virtual Textbook". Member of the ASGSB Education Committee (since 1995).
