Thesis Title: Expression of the Cyclooxygenase-2 Gene by Bacterial Lipopolysaccharide Stimulated Bovine Neutrophils
Thesis research surveyed the role of cyclooxygenase-2 metabolites, namely prostaglandins, in the severity and duration of bovine mastitis.
- Laboratory Technician, Summer 1996
Bennett College
Greensboro, North Carolina
Assisted with the care and maintenance of prairie voles (mice). Weighed and examined mice; collected various data (i.e. number of litters, gestation periods, weaning period...).
- Intern, Summer 1995
United States Department of Energy
Aiken, South Carolina
Worked in the area of applied environmental microbiology, focusing on in-situ and ex-situ bioremediation. Used assays to detect bacteria that would degrade subsurface contaminants.

Brief Biosketch:
Jenora Waterman is a native of Los Angeles, California. In 1993, Jenora received her diploma from David Starr Jordan High School in Los Angeles, California. As a United Negro College Fund (UNCF) Scholar, Jenora pursued and obtained a Bachelor of Science (Biology) from Bennett College in Greensboro, North Carolina in May 1997, graduating magna cum laude. Following graduation from Bennett College, Jenora taught biology and physical science at Walter Hines Page Sr. High School in Greensboro, NC. In 2001, Jenora complete the Master of Science degree (Biology) at North Carolina A & T State University. Jenora's MS thesis was entitled, 'Expression of the cyclooxygenase-2 gene by bacterial lipopolysaccharide stimulated bovine neutrophils.' This research project assessed the role of cyclooxygenase-2 metabolites, namely prostaglandins, in the severity and duration of bovine mastitis. Jenora is currently a Ph.D. student (Functional Genomics) in the Lab of Dr. David M. Bird, North Carolina State University.
