Tylenchorhynchus (The Stunt Nematode)

  • 267 species in temprate to subtropical climates
  • wide host range (tobacco, cereals, ornamentals, conifers, corn, cotton)
  • most important species - T. claytoni (Tobacco Stunt Nematode)
  • short stylet
  • feed mainly on surface tissue (epidermal and cortical cells) migratory ectoparasite
  • feeds for short periods of time
  • causes reduced growth and discoloration
  • 31-38day life cycle(egg-egg)
