of Ca2+ Homeostasis in transgenic tobacco cells (NT1) over-expressing
maize calreticulin, an ER Ca2+-storage protein

In order to study cellular roles of Ca2+, tools are needed
to perturb Ca2+ homeostasis. The endoplasmic reticulum
(ER) is an important Ca2+ store in plant cells. The retention
of Ca2+ in the ER is partially conferred by calreticulin,
a protein with BOth low-affinity/high-capacity and high-affinity/low-capacity
Ca2+ binding domains. The effects of over-expression of
maize calreticulin on Ca2+ homeostasis are studied in transgenic
tobacco cells. |
