Research
Interests:
Developmental
anatomy, morphogenesis and physiology of the shoot apical
meristem during the transition from vegetative to reproductive
growth. Environment
and plant development, with emphasis on: photoperiod/light
quality; and, temperature/nutritional stresses on the flowering
response, reproductive development, and on whole plant
morphology and yield. Anatomical,
developmental and reproductive responses of plants to various
concentrations of atmospheric carbon dioxide.
PRINCIPAL RESULTS (LAST 10 YEARS):
- Characterized temperature
sensitive period leading to precocious floral induction
in seedlings of Nicotiana and interaction with/without
photoinductive photoperiods.
- Defined basic morphological
features of reproductive-to-vegetative reversion in shoot
apices of soybean by using scanning electron microscopy.
- Characterized specific
changes in histochemical localization of six key enzymes
in the shoot apices of Nicotiana during the transition
from vegetative to reproductive development by using fresh-frozen
sections and computer-assisted image analysis for microdensitometry
measurements.
